Transition Bondi ANZAC Day

Transition Bondi  Comments Off on Transition Bondi ANZAC Day
Apr 242012

Dear Transitioners,

Last Wednesday, local film-maker Ruth Hessey presented her world-class documentary “Waste Not” to a full room, despite the torrential downpour. The food was amazing, and we all learned how changes at the individual level can ripple through the system to create big waves in reducing landfill waste. Thanks to Ruth and all our enthusiastic members and crew for making the evening so great!

This week, Lance is back fresh from the Permaculture Convergence in New Zealand with plenty of great stories, interesting information & new friends to talk about. Make sure you nab him at one of our events for a chat on what’s happening in wider circles. And as always, we’ve got some great stuff coming up this week… read on!

Lets build Big Solar – Wentworth | Sharing Insight into how Solar Thermal Power Stations provide Bas…
http://bigsolar.me/

“Let’s build Big Solar- Wentworth” is part of a National Campaign “Let’s Build Big Solar”, taking place all across Australia. To create awareness of the cost cutting benefits for everyone, with this great new technology, Solar Thermal Power is the energy source for today’s & tomorrow’s increasing electricity demands.

Members of local community group Big Solar Wentworth will doorknock houses in Paddington next Saturday inviting residents to be part of the Big Solar poll.

The poll is part of a national push by community groups across the country to ensure funds from the newly formed Clean Energy Finance Corporation will go towards building big solar projects.

Ian Rose, member of Big Solar Wentworth said, “The poll is a really simple people powered initiative to show people what big solar looks like and to hear people’s views on whether Australia should be getting on with the job of building large-scale solar projects.”

First time doorknocker and Bronte resident Martin Crawley said he was initially nervous about knocking on people’s houses, but was comforted by the fact that responses to the poll so far have been extremely positive.

We are hearing a consistent message from the community that it’s crazy how in the sunniest country on earth we aren’t harnessing solar power better. The sun can provide us with large amounts of safe, clean electricity that will never run out.” Said Martin.

The group are aiming to reach 1000 polls before the results are presented to local Federal member Malcolm Turnbull.

“The Liberal Party have a chance to get behind big solar by supporting the Clean Energy Finance Corporation in parliament in the next few months.” continued Ian.

“We’re calling on Turnbull to represent community views and throw his support behind the CEFC in parliament and ensure that it is an effective vehicle for the construction of new big solar plants.”

Anyone interested in volunteering on the day can meet at 10am outside St. Matthias’ Anglican Church, Paddington or visit bigsolar.me for more details.
