Hi everyone

It’s World Environment Day this Sunday!

World Environment Day was established by the United Nations in 1972 and is celebrated on the 5 June each year.  The theme for this year’s World Environment Day is “Go Wild for Life” which encourages you to celebrate all those species under threat and take action of your own to help safeguard them for future generations.

The illegal trade of our wildlife is having a devastating impact on the future of so many of our planet’s precious animals and plants. There is a desperate need to change our habits and behaviours so that the demand for wildlife products falls. You can help by actively demonstrating zero-tolerance for the illegal trade in wildlife. Collectively we can push governments and internationals bodies to introduce tougher laws and penalise those willing to break them.

Sign the pledge at:

For more information about World Environment Day, go to:

Let’s make World Environment Day a special day by taking action to help stamp out illegal trade in wildlife products!

Many thanks

Lila

Today is Hug a Climate Scientist Day, a long tradition started last year for us to say thank you to Australia’s Climate Scientists just for being them. It is not easy being a Scientist apparently although doing experiments and stuff must be awesome. This cartoon explains it all.

Loss of biodiversity impacts on people and communities too, say psychologists

Environmental degradation and the accompanying loss of biodiversity have an impact on human health and well-being and only a holistic approach will assist both people and natural environments to adapt to that change, according to a recent Australian Psychological Society (APS) submission to the Government.

Read the Media Release here

The Australian Psychological Society has lots of interesting material available on their website.

Of particulate interest in Sustainability is dealing with the impacts on Children and people in the sometime divisive subject of Climate change.

Don’t let O’Farrell get away with his draft Code of Practice for CSG Mining Last year more than 1500 submissions – from farmers, city folk, organisations, the catholic church, water experts, academics – were received by the NSW Upper House Enquiry into Coal Seam Gas.
